Editorial Positions


About the Position

As a staff photographer for The Daily Californian, you will get a chance to attend and photograph events on campus and around the city of Berkeley (including arts, sports, breaking news, portraits, etc.), as well as have the opportunity to publish full-page photo essays in print and online.

Photo staff will cover all of the photo needs for the the Daily Californian. Photographers should have a strong background in digital photography and photo editing; they should know how to use and be comfortable with a DSLR camera, and it is recommended that they are knowledgable in programs such as Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Photographers should be detail-oriented and quick to turn around content.

Work Requirements

  • One to two 4-hour “on call” time slot per week for assignments, plus additional weekend opportunities to shoot special events if available
  • Weekly photo staff meeting

Leadership Opportunities

  • After serving as a photographer, staff members may apply to serve as the photo assistant editor, photo web producer or photo editor.
