Technology Positions

Online Developer

About the Position

The Daily Californian is looking for experienced coders and web developers to make our online presence even more awesome, with projects ranging from building out sections of our website to mobile development.

**Applicants should be aware that this position differs from the projects developer (which you can find here) in both the scope of projects and team environment.

The Daily Cal is looking for experienced coders and web developers to work on awesome, out-of-this-world projects, from building special pages for our website to mobile development. We’re looking for somebody with a passion for detail and the courage to conquer mountains of code. We want creative puzzle solvers who aren’t afraid of inventing and creating on the fly, but also who are happy to hack away at tricky bugs.

You’ll join our award-winning team of developers—we recently snagged a first place at the Associate College Press awards for our website and our online multimedia project—in researching, designing and building a variety of online news products. One day you might write HTML and CSS, and on other days, you might be writing PHP and Javascript. Sometimes we have to build stuff fast, so deadlines can be stressful. In the end you will become a better programmer, speedy and fearless. You’ll have the opportunity to play and experiment with leading web technologies. Most importantly, you’ll make projects that’ll make your mom proud.

Some technologies we like (but you don’t need to know everything to apply!):

  • WordPress and PHP development
  • Github
  • HTML5, CSS3, SASS and responsive web design
  • Javascript, jQuery
  • Linux server administration: Nginx, MySQL, Varnish
