System Administrator/Infrastructure Engineer

About the Position

The Daily Californian is looking for an experienced web system administrator or infrastructure specialist to support the behind-the-scenes infrastructure of our online presence.

The Daily Cal is looking for an experienced web system administrator or infrastructure specialist to help support our Linux web server, production database and website redesign infrastructure migration. You will be responsible for managing the development workflow (test and deployment infrastructure) and assisting the back-end integration for our new website’s front end redesign.

We’re looking for somebody with an understanding of or passion for streamlining application development, delivery and maintenance. You will have flexible hours, but you are expected to commit at least 2-5 hours per week, in addition to attending a weekly meeting.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience with Linux server administration (installation, configuration, basic scripting)
  • Experience with website setup and maintenance (WordPress)
  • Experience with version control (Git)

Preferred:

  • Experience with LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  • Experience with our infrastructure (Puppet, Vagrant/VirtualBox, Nginx, Varnish)
