Editorial Positions

About the Position

The Daily Clog (Cal + Blog) is the flagship blog of The Daily Californian, and it’s always looking for new Cloggers!

At the Clog, writers have the opportunity to express themselves and craft original articles across three sections: The Daily Clog, Eating Berkeley and Travel Blog.

The Daily Clog features all things related to the student/college life experience as a UC Berkeley student, while Eating Berkeley curates recipes, local restaurant experiences and news on local businesses. The Travel Blog chronicles the adventures and personal reflections on worldly destinations. Whether writers are providing their 2 cents on college life at UC Berkeley, deconstructing viral trends, entertaining students with a list of haunted spots on campus or working on long-term projects investigating the startup culture around UC Berkeley, Cloggers will gain valuable skills in a new media platform and learn a writing style that will appeal to an online college readership.

Application Materials

  • Resume (PDF, about one page in length)
  • Cover letter (PDF, about one page in length)
  • Three mock articles that could be published in the Clog, Eating Berkeley or Travel Blog (PDFs)
  • Interview (invitation only)

Work Requirements

  • Two articles per week
  • Weekly blog staff meeting
  • Weekly editing session
    • Reduced workload option: The Daily Cal understands that some applicants may have disabilities and/ or extenuating circumstances that would prevent them from writing two articles a week, such as a necessary, paying job that takes up a significant amount of time outside of classes. If this is the case, applicants may choose to apply for a reduced workload reporter position, which would involve writing one article per week instead of two.
